Shape Up with The Right Pair of Shoes

Buying My First Skechers Sneakers

I recently bought my first pair of Skechers Women's Shape-Ups Sneakers. I am not one to spend a lot of money. If I spend $30 on a pair of shoes, I cringe. So spending $100 on a pair of shoes took a great amount of debating. I have heard and read the commercials for these fitness shoes. Many articles have been written on the benefits of these sneakers. To top it off, my husband knows some people from work who wear Skechers and swear by them.

I have had feet problems since my daughter was born. She is a college student now. If fact I have given her a complex on how my body has taken a turn for the worse since having the baby.

I love to walk. When I was younger, I had joined many walk-a-thons. Before the baby, it was nothing to put in a ten mile walk on the weekends.

The day before my daughter was born; I bought a new pair of slippers for the hospital. They were a size 5 and my feet had plenty of room. The moment after she was born, a nurse grabbed my new slippers for me to put on. Guess what? They didn’t fit. It was like one of Cinderella’s stepsisters putting her large foot in the small glass slipper.

When I tell people that my feet grew 1 1/2 to 2 sizes bigger the day I had my baby, they just shake their head in disbelief.

Since that day, have seen a podiatrist off an on over the years for treatment on my feet. I have heal spurs and spurs top of my feet. My foot pain has often been on the bottom of my feet and I have been told at these particular times that I have torn or pulled ligaments. (The stress and pressure of giving birth stretched and torn the ligaments in my feet.) Everyday I live with foot pain.

The day I walked into the shoe store and tried on a pair of Skechers, my feet went “Oh yeah!” It is still to early to tell, but these shoes feel real good. They even come with a DVD. My feet don’t hurt while wearing them. I will have to keep you posted.

Note: They come in men's styles too.

One Month Update

Since I have had these shoes for a little over a month now, I have to say, "I love them!"

They do take a bit to get use to starting out. Every time I walk I feel like my legs are getting a good workout. And my heals don't hurt (when I am wearing them).

Only drawback is that the heal on the shoes are higher than I had been use to, which means I have some high water pants on when I walk.

I have been hearing a lot about these shoes on TV. You'll have to let us know how it goes after a month or two. I am a bit afraid of ending up with back problems or something since they alter the way you walk, but maybe I'm just a worry-wart. Great lens and have fun walking!

Shoes make all the diff - I personally go with New Balance but may try a switcheroo.....I wonder if they have shoes with a net attached for my escapades! Good info!

Cathi, I have ran into a few women who have had similar problems after childbirth. I don't know the percentage. Even if it is a low number like1 percent, I fall into that.

akirchner, if you are talking about tripping over your own feet, I do that too. :)

OOohhh yes keep us posted on these! I bought a pair of Fitflops before the actual "shoes" came out and I wore them to death! I've heard really good things about Sketchers Shape ups but haven't tried them yet so you will have to write a follow up hub!!!

I have a pair of these shoes. I'm a surgical tech, so I'm on my feet 10 hours a day too. They are great for lower back pain. I paid $125.00 for mine. I really debated hard on whether or not I was worth the money. Finally I said yes to the price, and my back thanks me for it every day. No more lower back pain.

Sandyspider, sounds great, thanks for sharing your account of the phatom foot growth, hea I hear ya weird things happen when you carry a baby and then deliver... I considered purchasing these shoes and have looked at them multiple times, I can't stand to pay a high-price but if they are worth it from what I can see I will work it into my budget to purchase a pair, thanks for the rave review. :)

I was talking to a relative and she told me she had a pair. Her doctor recommended it.

talayna 23 months ago

I visited my podiatrist yesterday and he said that podistrists do not recommend wearing shapeup/rockaway type shoes; he said there have been injuries to the achilles and the ACL as a result of strain to these areas. (???) I have not found any information that supports his comments. Anyone else?

Sandyspider profile image

Sandyspider Hub Author 23 months ago

talayna, I haven't read anything that supports his comments either. But a week after I bought my Shape-Ups, I was talking to a family member about my shoes. She laughed when she told me that she had a pair and her doctor recommended them to her.

the month before my daughter was born i put on a very nice pair of shoes. i swear to this day that my feet grew one size the moment i put them on. becouse i saw my feet bust threw the shoes. it was imbarassing. never the less, i bought the kmart brand thats like a shape up. i only had them on one night at work. but, i have NO heel pain. that is a blessing. i was more tired when i got up this morning. i think its from more energy i had to work.
