Riding in Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair
61Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair
Take a Ride with Author David Russell and Frank Furlong
Take a ride with author David Russell and Frank Furlong and their first Children's book titled “Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair”. Experience the world shared through books read to his grandson Aaron. This book is intended to be both a bedtime read for kids 4 to 6 and a self-read for ages 6 to 8.
As quoted from the press release on http://www.booksbyallmeans.com/:
'Armed with glasses for Pop-Pop, they flip on the reading light, tilt back their “magic chair” and are off to a world filled with jungle animals, the desert, the ocean, working trains and outer space.'
David Russell, 82 years young in 2010. Russell has had an interesting life as a producer for animation commercials.
Russell worked on TV spots for commercials, to name a few: Speedy Alka Seltzer, Pillsbury Doughboy, Chuck Wagon, American Airlines and Chevrolet. He was the special effects person for Fantasy Island Show and NBC Bible series.
Later, after completing a film for Westinghouse, Frank Furlong began working with "Sesame Street", later, supervising the backgrounds for “Bobby’s World” and “Angry Beavers.
Retired from films and producing, David Russell keeps busy with his writing on HubPages and his writing for children's stories. Along with illustrator Frank Furlong, whom David worked with 30 years earlier, 12 non-violent children's books are in the making, plus books of poems in 2010 and 2011.
Now available is their first storybook, “Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair” and can be found at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders E-Catalogue. Their publisher chose “Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair” as a prime example of a good children’s story book. A wonderful reward for Russell's and Furlong's first children's book together and it only took twelve weeks to publish it.
Being a Hub friend of mine, I would like to help David and Frank spread the word on their newly released book and the books to follow. I have been informed that they are still waiting for an agent to come along and help them produce their work, it is all out-of-pocket expense. The sales they recover in “Pop-Pop’s Magic Chair” will go towards helping the completion of all the 12 children's books.
Hubber David Russell tells of the self publishing steps that Frank Furlong and he took to get to where they are at. It has been an amazing adventure reading the stages since April 19, 2010. Together Russell and Furlong make a great team.
The second book in the making is “The Loch Lomond Monster” should be published before the end of the 2010 year and would make a wonderful gift to a young boy or girl.

Sandy M. Thanks for the lovely plug, but some credits belong to my illustrator friend Frank Furlong. Backgrounds for "Bobby's World" and "Angry Beavers" were Furlong credits. Other than that, names and places are correct. More of my fortunate life is available in my Hub story "The Hyphenate", Looking back from age 82, I have to be thankful for a life better than anyone deserves. Frank and I now continue having fun with our children's storybooks. We'll keep going as long as we can. Thanks. David
