The Theory of Color Therapy
It has been shown that the color affects our mood. Some colors make us uneasy, while other colors gives out a warm comfortable feeling. Orange can be a stressful color, while blue is a calm color. This therapy has been used for the healing abilities in treating emotional and physical disturbances. A therapist can use various color and light to heal the energy of the patient. This energy can be emotional, physical or spiritual.
The theory of color therapy dates back to a physician and scholar, Avicenna (c. 980 - 1037), who viewed colors to be an effective treatment. Avicenna discussed color therapy (also known as chromotherapy) in his book “The Canon of Medicine. He wrote that "Color is an observable symptom of disease." In his view, he believed yellow reduced muscular pain and inflammation, red moved the blood and blue or white cooled it. He also discussed how subjects became responsive to colors for healing.
Following in the 19th century, healers claimed colored glass filters could treat many diseases. In 1942, Russian scientists found that red light stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, while white and blue light stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system.
Color therapy has not been a proven science. Not enough studies have been done. But we are all aware that colors have a psychological power over our moods and impulses. Businesses know this and take advantage of it. It has been suggested by therapist that color can help us gain that balance in life.

When we finished building our home in 2004 the painter advised us that the color of the model home we duplicated is used by hospitals in waiting rooms to give people a sense of calm. It is like a sea foam green that we have going throughout the home. Mixed with earthy brown tones it gives off a feeling of cooziness and warmth. Great Hub and very informative.
VERY interesting Hub. Well written. Thanks!
Interesting read, informative.I dont think I agree with the theory, but very interesting hub.
Interesting! I love black.
This is an interesting hub. I believe people are definitely affected by colour. My son has a yellow bedroom though, maybe I ought to repaint it! Don't know if you believe in it, but i've read a bit on the chakras in the body and how a certain colour correlates to each one - I think it is green for the heart and blue for the throat, for example. Anyway, I enjoyed reading!
Great Hub, I'm now happier about my favorite color blue being a calming color. I agree with this theory and it has proven itself true often. I agree, Sandy. People should really give them a chance.
Good hub.You know I have always been for subtle colors, pale and brownish creamy colors but I think am ready for more cheer, but still pale. I studied this years ago and it did make sense.
Great Hub! Very interesting... I do not have a favorite color, it depends of my mood... Or is my mood that depends on the colours?? ;)
I have no idea if it would heal me, but the colors in that first image are divine. I had something similar in a very dark, cave like office I once had. I must have intuitively known it would help.
Cool. Colors do wonders to your soul and spirit.
Beautiful - I love colours and they do affect me, no doubt about that.
Love and peace
Tony
