Acupuncture versus Acupressure
75Is There Pain in Acupuncture?
Acupuncture and Acupressure
Acupuncture and Acupressure are both part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or alternative medicine. These both work off of the pressure points and are centered on touching meridians which carry energy or chi right through a person’s body. According to TCM, ailments occur due to blockage of chi in any of the fourteen different meridians and both acupuncture and acupressure advocate energy to flow without blockages. Both have been used to treat allergies, depression, nausea, migraine headaches, arthritis, menstrual cramps, arthritis pain relief and treatment for rashes in the skin such as eczema. Claims on treatments from both Acupuncture and Acupressure cure a wide spectrum of aliments.
For being treated both are the same in releasing chi. The difference is that one involves fine thin needles to puncture the area of skin and the other is pressure applied through the fingers.
Acupuncture has to be performed by a practitioner experienced in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This practitioner needs the skill with the tools of needles to achieve great accuracy to bring quick relief. Though rare as it is, there may also be some side effects as a result of acupuncture that are caused due to release of toxins or through realignment of the muscle groups.
Acupressure has been practiced long before acupuncture became known. It does not have to be given through an experienced practitioner in TCM. This practice can be learnt from a handbook. A simple massage can be performed on oneself anywhere. Fewer side effects have been reported with the deep tissue massages of acupressure.

Very good info. Nice Hub.
Great diagrams and good hub.
As I hate needles I'd have to go for acupressure -- good Hub. Best, Sis
Great info - I've never really understood these!
SandySpider,
How very informative and useful. My mother is trying acupuncture. I'm genuinely curious about it. Do you know if there's a special way to apply pressure to those pressure points during acupressure? Maybe you could write a hub about that, if you haven't already.
~AC
How interesting, but I'm afraid I still don't quite understand the pressure thing. Is pressure the same as a massage to your hands, or do you just apply pressure? And for how long? HEHE Maybe I should just ask you a Question about it so you can write another hub. ^_^
That sounds great, Sandy! I will keep my eyes peeled. And just in case you want to answer a question, I will submit that for you too. I'm pretty sure you can answer it at any time, right?
Love the pictures. great hub!
Great Hub Ms.Sandyspider, very informative one.
Most patients find acupuncture a pleasant and relaxing way to get treatment for their physical conditions and diseases. The effects of acupuncture are surprising even at first treatment. It offers fast relief from physical pain. Patients choose acupuncture when all other conventional treatment methods have failed.
I know a lot about this personally being someone who has been helped by both acupuncture and acupressure. I know that western medicines know very little about this and that is because they don't have the evidence they want. I could write a lot about it but I think that people need to try it if they have a blockage somewhere
